Join us July 5-10 as we travel to Down East Maine to experience the unique coastal islands of the North Atlantic. We will be staying at the Schoodic Institute in a lightly visited part of Acadia National Park, and working with the Friends of the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge.

About the event
This six day excursion includes birding and inner-tidal adventures on Schoodic Peninsula (the lightly visited eastern part of Acadia National Park), a guided kayak exploration of the Porcupine Islands in Frenchman’s Bay, beach clean-up on Petit Manan Point adjacent to a Puffin nesting colony, an interactive live cam workshop with the biologists as they collect data and band Puffins and other seabird chicks on one of the remote islands, and a Puffin cruise that will also benefit the Friends of Maine Coast Islands National Wildlife Refuge. During the Puffin cruise, Bob Duchesne (Maine Birding Trail creator) will be our guide and able to communicate with island biologists to share their stories and answer your questions.
The schedule allows one free day for "Do It Yourself" excursions as there are many experience options in the Bar Harbor area. Here are a few suggestions: group tours of Acadia National Park, bike rentals on quiet Schoodic Peninsula, or a Bar Harbor whale watching excursion. When you register, we'll send more info.
We are fortunate to be able to arrange private room accommodations in 2 and 4 bedroom apartments at Schoodic Intitule. Each apartment is equipped with a full kitchen.
